Bob Hayes among Hall of Fame finalists; Charles Haley out Bob Hayes is the Dallas Cowboys only candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fames Class of 2009. Hayes and former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Claude Humphrey previously were voted onto the ballot by the seniors committee. They will be joined by 15 modern-era candidates announced Tuesday, including first-year eligible players John Randle, Shannon Sharpe, Bruce Smith and Rod Woodson. Charles Haley, who played with the Cowboys from 1992-96, again failed to make the final 15 after making the list of 25 semifinalists. Hayes died in 2002. Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end John Randle, who played at Hearne High School, Trinity Valley Community College in Athens and at Texas A&I-Kingsville, now Texas A&M-Kingsville, is the only Texan on the list. 9.    Jason Garrett's future up for discussion today

The Denver Broncos are expected to interview Jason Garrett today for their head coaching position. While I have some criticism of Garrett's play-calling and in-season adjustments this year, I still believe that retaining him as offensive coordinator would be important to the Cowboys. He's a young coach still gaining experience and the offensive numbers he put up in 2007 were amazing. But the overall production on offense was less than what it should have been given the amount of talent and playmakers we have on that side of the ball. A lot of that drop-off can be attributed to an offensive line that clearly regressed. He was the coach who was supposed to take our maulers and mold them into the prefect unit for Garrett's vertical offense that uses the power running game. "Jason let them be men and talk it out," Holland said.

IRVING DeMarcus Ware had a league-high 20 sacks but it was not good enough for the Cowboys' outside linebacker to win the Associated Press' Defensive Player of the Year Award. Ware finished second to Pittsburgh's James Harrison with 13 votes to Harrison's 22. 1 player," Ware said. "There will be a lot of guys shooting for it but it just gives me something to shoot for, like I didn't get the sack record and that's something to shoot for." Harrison had a Steelers' record 16 sacks and seven forced fumbles, while leading the No. Baltimore safety Ed Reed was third followed by Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu. "I remember every single one, believe me," Ware said. Ware, whose sack totals have increased every year, is the first Cowboy with double-digit sack totals in three straight years since Randy White from 1983-85.

"DeMarcus Ware was cheated out of the Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press, who handed the trophy to James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers." This was my immediate reaction when I heard the news. After further review, Im more understanding of the Harrison choice. NEW YORK (AP) -- James Harrison slams down the current version of the Steel Curtain better than any Pittsburgh Steeler, earning him The Associated Press 2008 Defensive Player of the Year award. The linebacker who had a career-high 16 sacks, setting a team record, and led the NFL with a career-high seven forced fumbles, beat Dallas' DeMarcus Ware in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters announced Monday. Pittsburgh defense was the league's stingiest in total defense, pass defense and points allowed. "In my mind, I think I do -- and it's going to sound boring -- what the defense allows me to do and what my teammates allow me to do." Harrison earned 22 votes to 13 for Ware. Harrison has Troy Polamulu (73 tackles, 7 INTs) and LaMarr Woodley (60 tackles, 11.5 sacks).
