BY SCOTT LAUBERIt wasn't an easy season for Jimmy Rollins .Rollins, the 2007 NL MVP, badly sprained his left ankle in the season's eighth game April 8 in New York, went on the disabled list April 20 and didn't return until May 9. He was removed from a June 5 game against the Cincinnati Reds for not running out a pop fly, and he was benched July 24 for arriving an hour later than Charlie Manuel's mandated time before a 12:10 p.m. Then, during a trip to Los Angeles on Aug. 13, he appeared in-studio at the Best Damn Sports Show and called Phillies fans "front-runners." A day later, he apologized for his choice of words but called for fans to give off less "negative energy" and to offer unconditional positive reinforcement, whether the Phils are winning or losing. 27 when Rollins impossibly started the double play that clinched the NL East championship. He gathered himself and flipped the ball to Chase Utley , who, gritting through what had to be searing pain in his right hip, pivoted and threw a strike to Ryan Howard .It was the double play that saved the day.6-4-3 never looked so good on your scoresheet. "You guys have seen me make that play plenty of times.

Chase Utley Is Sorry for the F-Bomb, Expects to Be Ready for Opening D ...
21 days ago - mlb.fanhouse.com
Chase Utley met with reporters yesterday, and after faking everybody out with an exaggerated limp as he walked into the room, he revealed that his recovery from hip surgery three weeks ago has advanced without a hitch. It's gone so well, in fact, that he's hoping to be ready for Opening Day, a far cry from the worst-case scenario that originally predicted he could miss the first six weeks of the season . I tell all kids not to use that word. A confirmation email will be sent to you after submitting. Please keep your comments relevant to this blog entry. Utley setting his sights on Opening Day
22 days ago - mlb.mlb.com
Utley setting his sights on Opening Day Second baseman is recovering from surgery on his right hip "Every day, whether I felt terrible or I felt good, I still felt like I had an opportunity to help the team win," said Chase Utley about his injury. Puskar/AP) PHILADELPHIA -- Genetics certainly played a role in the deterioration of Chase Utley's right hip, as did the second baseman's unrelenting style of play. And Utley acknowledged all that on Monday afternoon, not long after striding up to his microphone without a visible limp. It's been almost precisely three weeks since Utley underwent arthroscopic surgery to trim the labrum and a bony lesion in his right hip, and still, Utley doesn't care much to know how this all came about. 25, Utley faced a small crowd at Citizens Bank Park and proclaimed hope that he would be ready to play come Opening Day. From there, he and Sheridan will begin a strengthening program, before Utley can even consider resuming regular baseball activities. It was roughly June when the Phillies second baseman first realized that the aches and pains in his hip were not the type that would disappear with time.

Amaro upbeat on Utley surgery
42 days ago - philly.com
Amaro upbeat on Utley surgery Ruben Amaro Jr. has not had much time to reflect on the Phillies' World Series championship. "It's been a bit of whirlwind," Amaro said last night at the Phillies' World Series DVD premiere at the Bridge Cinema De Lux in Philadelphia. Amaro said the surgery went well, although he expected a more detailed report today. "What I can tell you is that our early reports are that it was a very successful surgery," Amaro said. Amaro said he had nothing to report on negotiations with free-agent lefthander Jamie Moyer. There was interest in the contract status of Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels, despite the fact that Howard cannot become a free agent until after the 2011 season and Hamels is not eligible until after 2012.
