5 hours ago - rustonleader.com
, buddy@rustonleader.com 01-06-2009 All of those nearly 42,000 fans who recently assembled for the Independence Bowl could have been forewarned by various teams in the Western Athletic Conference about what they might expect to see from Phillip Livas. The Louisiana Tech University sophomore, of course, was one of the heroes in the game with a 97-yard kickoff return that electrified the crowd and fueled the Bulldogs to a 17-10 win over Northern Illinois University. But such was nothing new for Livas, who has been a proverbial pain in the neck (and everywhere else) for WAC opponents during the 2008 regular season. Somebody with that speed and breakaway skills has the ability to break a game wide-open, said former Utah State coach Brent Guy. 1 for all-purpose yards and punt return average. Livas averaged 155.0 all-purpose yards per game and was the only player in the league to total at least 2,000 yards in that category. He zipped two returns back for scores.
